Parental Involvement Plan

2008 - 2009

Unity School encourages parent involvement as advisors and resource people in accordance with the Lincoln County Board of Education policy No. 4.502.

Unity School will work to provide meaningful parental involvement activities which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Open House will be held annually.

Parent/Teacher/Student compacts will be used annually.

Agendas will be used in grades 1 - 8.

Student work will be sent home at least weekly.

Progress reports will be sent out four times a year.

Report cards will be sent out four times a year.

Unity School will hold an annual meeting to discuss Unity’s Title I program.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held formally twice a year.

Teacher and parents can request conferences at any time throughout the year.

The Unity School Newsletter will be sent out at least once a month. It will inform parents of activities that will be occurring at Unity.

The Home & School Connection Newsletter will be sent home with each Title I student monthly. It contains various parent education and home support ideas.

Parents will be involved in school-decision making through participation on the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). At least one Title I parent will serve on this committee along with Unity faculty.

Each month Title I students complete a parent led educational activity at home.

"Idea" letters are sent home monthly to parents of Title I students. Some topics covered in these letters are: Helping with Homework, Sharing Reading Time, Raising a Reader....

At least one family literacy night will be held in the fall (Spooktacular Stories! and/or Stories with Santa).

A family reading night will be held in the Spring (Pizza with Parents!)

The Parent Resource Center is available. Parents are welcome to check out extra educational materials to use at home.

Parent, Grandparent and/or family member volunteers are utilized throughout the year (many make materials to be used in the classroom).

Unity’s Parents, Teachers, and Friends (PTF) meet each 9 weeks.

Each year, Unity has a clean up day. Faculty, staff and parents volunteers help maintain the campus grounds.

 

Every parent/grandparent is invited to join their child for lunch on the Parent/Grandparent lunch date.

Parents are also used as guest speakers.

Very often parents (or grandparents) will come to read to their child’s class.
